This is the workhorse category: the general-purpose effects that video editors, podcasters, game developers and streamers reach for every day. Doors, footsteps, rain, wind, engines, animals, glass breaking, alarms, whooshes, clicks and interface tones. If you need something realistic rather than comedic, it is probably here.

The collection is built from free-licence sources: CC0 sound-effect packs, public-domain field recordings from the Internet Archive, and a set of Wikimedia Commons clips, plus community uploads that have been reviewed by a person. Because the library is curated rather than scraped, the titles are meant to describe what you actually hear, and each sound page lists the author, the source and the licence so you can check it before it goes into a client project. Most files here can be used in commercial work without asking anyone.

Search is the fastest way in. Type what you need in the search box at the top ("door close", "rain", "siren") and the results include tags as well as titles. Every result can be previewed instantly and downloaded as a plain MP3.
